College in demand

Farming is a major contributor to the Australian economy and the WA College of Agriculture-Denmark may well be the best place to take up agricultural related studies. The College located in the township of Denmark has over 75 years of history and is recognised as a leading provider of high quality education and training for the agricultural and related industry sector.

As an independent public school and registered training organisation it is the intention of the College to ensure students gain meaningful careers in their preferred course of study. The College works hard to offer attractive career options, including a strong ATAR program for students attaining a high academic performance who are considering University after completion of Year 12. With committed staff, excellent facilities and a well ordered environment in which to thrive, the College aims to ensure students reach their full potential.

WACoA-Denmark has a record of outstanding academic achievement with some ATAR students entering Medicine, Vet Science and Agricultural Science upon completion of their studies.  Esperance Agronomist, James Bidstrup who took up agricultural science at UWA after graduating from the College in 2014 is a keen advocate…He was the guest speaker at last year’s graduation ceremony and spoke highly about the opportunities the College provided him with. James was from the city but chose the Ag College to help him pursue his career.

The opportunity to mix academic studies with hands-on work on the College farm has proved time and again to be a recipe for excellent results for WA College Agriculture-Denmark’s ATAR students.

The Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) number, determines a student’s entry into university and 60% of the College’s 2019 Year 12 ATAR students achieved ATAR’s of 70% or higher, the best result of any of the College’s graduating classes.

A/Principal, Steve Swallow said, “We have been building a strong ATAR program for several years now and have had some outstanding individual ATAR’s in the high 90’s, but it is particularly pleasing to see so many of (last year’s) students perform strongly and gain direct entry into University courses.”

About a third of the students at the College sit for ATAR courses and the Principal firmly believes that the combination of practical and theoretical learning delivers the greatest benefit for every type of learner, resulting in demonstrated outcomes.

WACoA-Denmark is a co-educational residential college offering an outstanding academic program and also caters for day students.

Demand for enrolment at the College has increased exponentially and following record enrolments in 2019 and 2020, families are encouraged to contact the College as soon as possible.

Enrolment Demand High

As there are limited places at the College and very strong demand, particularly for residential places, it is recommended that prospective students apply no later than 1st Term in the year proceeding potential enrolment. However, applications remain open and families are encouraged to apply at any time.

Enrolment Process

·         Expression of Interest Form. To be completed by prospective student

·         Application Form. To be completed by Parent/Guardian

·         Return both forms along with 2 semester reports and NAPLAN results if possible.

·         Once this information has been received the College will contact the Parent/Guardian to arrange a prospective student interview.

Expression of Interest forms can be found on the website. These can be lodged at any time and will be held by the College until the year proceeding potential enrolment, when the College will contact families to arrange prospective student interviews.

Not all of our students are residential. About 20% of students also attend the College as day students, including many travelling from Albany each day on the Loves Bus service.

Younger students who may be interested in attending the College in the future are also encouraged to attend our Open Day which is held in September on the Father’s Day weekend. This year Open Day is scheduled for 2 September 2017.
