What’s on at WACoA
Week 5, Term 4 2025
A WA College of Agriculture Denmark publication.
Welcome to this week’s What’s on at WACoA.
In response to our recent parent survey on areas that could support our school community and parents, we are trialling a weekly update to keep people better informed about upcoming events and assessments.
Upcoming Assessments and Activities
Week 10:
School reports for Year 10’s will be issued through the week. Please ask your children to look through their reports carefully, both when they receive them and again in late January. It is a great reflective tool to ensure students know what they need to do to continue their success or make improvements.
A productive week with many year 10’s on site while others are on work experience.
We welcome a few new staff for 2026.
Ms Goodwill is taking the first 6 months in 2026 for long service leave and Ms Johnson has applied for leave for the whole of 2026. Ms Fretwell our school psych is leaving us to return to Perth to be closer to family. Mr Toon has also decided to be closer to home and family and decided to find opportunities in Albany.
This has opened up a raft of opportunities for teachers wanting to work at the College.
Ms Powley who has had extensive experience teaching ATAR English in Perth will be joining us for the whole of 2026, replacing Ms Johnson. Mr Hill who has a strong background in HaSS and English is covering Ms Goodwill’s classes over the first 6 months. Mr Grant has been appointed to replace Mr Toon. Mr Grant was recently a Head of Department of trades at Scotch College and has the added advantage of personal experience with Angus Beef farming. Ms Stoner is joining our team as school psychologist 1.5 days per week.
We wish everyone a safe and Merry Christmas and look forward to 2026.
Messages
We had the pleasure of having all our prospective new students on site late last week as part of the Enrolment Day process. It was pleasing to see the excitement of those that have been accepted into WACoA Denmark. We took the opportunity to share a range of information with families that visited as part of the activities to prepare the students for 2026.
It is a unique educational scenario that exists at WACoA Denmark. While prospective students visited with their families last week we made it a priority to share some key messages;
Students are ‘Planted’ here where they will “Grow” and “Harvest” as they “Thrive” in our school community,
Being at WACoA - Denmark is hard work and the next 2-3 years can set up the next 20+ if students make the most of their opportunities,
There will be challenges along the way as over 50 new students come into the College, who will have a variety of behaviours, needs, habits, experiences, backgrounds etc. We do not have a magic wand to make all our new students terrific straight away, however those that learn and develop their skills along the way will benefit immensely,
The social media trap and the low-level social skills some students exhibit is also a challenge for many. Various scenarios need to be manoeuvred through carefully,
The high number of success stories of past students show us and the local community that there is a huge benefit in attending WACoA Denmark, however the level of this benefit depends on how students respond to the many challenges that present themselves,
We are an Agricultural College and can only operate if students complete the work required on Farm. It’s a commitment that is rewarded with the 3+ certificates and other benefits students can obtain with their enrolment. Completing the Certificate III Agriculture course is an important element of this which is not negotiable.
