AusAlert

The Australian Government is launching AusAlert, a new national warning system that sends emergency messages to compatible mobile devices.
AusAlert is a fast and reliable way to help keep Australians informed so they can act quickly during local and national disasters.
These could be natural hazards like bushfires, floods and cyclones, as well as security threats or public health emergencies.

AusAlert will send messages regarding emergency events to all Australians on their mobile devices, including:

• phones

• tablets

• smart watches

• safety watches

• vehicle devices.

AusAlert will behave differently to standard text messaging. It includes 2 alert levels, both featuring a unique siren ringtone and a message that appears on device screens.

Critical alert

The critical alert is an intrusive alert that overrides silent and do not disturb settings. It is used only when there is an imminent threat to life and property. Users cannot opt out.

Priority alert

The priority alert does not override silent and do not disturb settings. It is sent when advice is required on potential events. Users can opt out of this alert by accessing notifications in their device settings.

In Western Australia, AusAlert will be sending a test alert on Monday, 27 July 2026 at around 12pm.
